About Me:
I am a former freelance photographer, who is transitioning into the counseling field, to become a mental health counselor. I am pursuing a BS in psychology. I will also pursue an AA degree in mental health, a Master's degree in counseling, and a Ph.D. in counseling psychology. I am particularly interested in mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder, as well as substance abuse, personality disorders, eating disorders, grief counseling, families and relationships, and career counseling.
My last "specialty" in photography was food photography, which is how I became concerned about hunger and nutritional issues in this country. I would shoot a beautiful setup of food, and then think, "Somebody out there is hungry...but they can't eat this." It was so sad.
Now I've merged my interests in psychology, mental health, and food into a project that hopefully will help mentally ill clients and substance abusers get adequate nutrition, which is vital for their recovery. These populations do not usually take good care of their physical health during the course of their illnesses and addictions, and this project could help them realize that they must do that to recover and lead normal lives.
I also want to provide internship opportunities for any clients who become interested in food service during their time in this project--which is very possible. Who knows? At one point, I considered becoming a professional cook, so I know it's a terrific field to get into.
I think this project could help a great many people. Let's see what it turns into!
