My Impact

Nicole M. - Zazengo Reflection

This is a reflection of my involvement with the Zazengo website.

1. Contributing to the Zazengo website, I was the team leader of the Water Conservation group which we named "Turn off the Taps" where we promoted awareness of water waste and influenced conservation in our school community. My main role was to assign tasks and keep my team organized and introduce them to the Zazengo site as well as lead them into our own project. I researched ways in which we could bring attention to water conservation in our school community and created tips on how to be more water conscious. I placed all the information we gathered onto our project on the Zazengo website itself. I created advertisements and a group logo to promote our project.

In the beginning of the Zazengo project, I lead my class into creating their own profiles which lead to also creating ideas for the site and bringing any problems to attention. There was also a class project which we called "Real Solutions for An Inconvenient Truth". It was a great success within our school, having the school wide presentation and Eco Challenge contest. I contributed to the Eco Challenge by leading certain classes in our school on how to create profiles and join our Eco Challenge. I also created the rubrics for our guest judges, and helped to organize and lead the judging process.

2. The Zazengo website has come a long way in including all of our suggestions into the site. If I were to start from scratch and redesign the site, I would defiantly keep the current navigation of the site, as it is a lot less confusing and very understandable. The organization of the site itself I would also not change. For the profile pages, I would create a place for people to communicate what they are currently working on as well as a place for them to upload a copy of their resume or portfolio for other people to view on the site. I would take the current color scheme of Zazengo and change it to green, as the blue is a duplicate of Facebook, and would be a lot more effective with its message in the color green. I would also create a new modern design in green for the main tabs and beta area that included something to do with nature or the world. In the profile area I would also include a place for notifications such as when people comment on your discussions or stories or when they add things to one of your projects. This will keep everyone updated on any current events or changes in order to respond quickly to questions or comments. These notifications would also be sent to the user via email.

As far as a Facebook application, Zazengo would have to be very modern in its design and placement of the key elements. I would include direct links to the site and would only provide profiles for people who join Zazengo and create projects on the site. On their Facebook profile, the Zazengo application would display their impact and current metrics that apply to them. It would also display their current projects and a mini picture from their Zazengo profile page. The colors should be consistent with Zazengo, and the eye-catching elements would be the Zazengo logo (which linked to the site) and metrics that apply to the person.
