The forest vegetation serves as a reservoir of carbon, which becomes a building block for themselves, generating oxygen as a by product. The loss of large tracts of forest means that the earth is less able to process the increasing amounts of carbon dioxide. This creates the green house effect which causes gradual global warming. We have destroyed the natural balance of our earth and it is impossible to reverse the ecological imbalance.
