Do you need to go green?

Find out how eco-friendly you really are. Which would you choose?

  1. Plastic or Paper?
  • a) Plastic
  • b) Paper

  • a) Wrapping Paper
  • b) Gift Bags

  1. Hummer or Hybrid?
  • a) Hummer

For each a give yourself one point and for every b give yourself two points.

If you got 9-10 points:

You are super eco-friendly! Spread the green and encourage your friends to get green too.

If you got 7-8 points:

You are well on your way to becoming a green guru. Keep up the good work!

If you got 5-6 points:

You need to step it up. There are plenty of little things that you can do to make the world greener, so get on it.

  • á That the last two decades have been the hottest in the past 400 years?
  • á That the global sea level has risen between 10cm to 25cm in the last 100 years?
  • á That if the green house gas emissions double, the tundra will decrease by 30%?

10 Go Green Tips

1. Replace your regular light bulbs to fluorescent ones. Fluorescent light bulbs use about 60% less energy which saves 300 pounds of CO2.

2. Turn off your appliances. For example, if a computer is turned off for just three hours a day, completely turned off, not just on standby, you use 40% less energy a year.

3. Cover your pots while cooking your dinner. By just adding a lid, you can use 70% less energy.

4. Shower. If you take a shower instead of a bath, you use four times less energy as you would filling a bath.

5. Use your green bin. By throwing your organic waste into your green bin you can prevent 3% of greenhouse gas emissions from the methane that would burn by tossing it out in the garbage.

6. Go for the recycled stuff. If you buy recycled paper, you use 70%-90% less energy. Plus you stop clear cutting of the forests.

7. Buy locally grown food. The average meal has to travel about 2000km to get to your table.

8. Eat less meat. Cows produce significant amounts of methane, the substance with the second largest quantity in greenhouse gas. By eating less cows, less of them are bred to satisfy consumers.

9. Take public transit, walk, or bike. By driving 15km less each week,500 pounds of CO2 are saved a year.

10. Buy fresh food instead of frozen. It takes 10 times more energy to produce frozen food.
