There are a number of reasons why my pond water (inside a forest near my house) tested positive for coliform. There could have been dirt in the water or the container itself could not have been washed out correctly. Animal deposite could have been on small amounts throughout the test water. Maybe even some dirt etc... came in contact with the water when it was poored into the test tubes.
