Our goal is to introduce the idea of reusing and reducing to students and teachers, and promote recycling in many different ways.
Did You Know That...
People throw away a lot of things that can be recycled and not take a long period of time to decompose such as:
- Cigarette butts : 1 - 5 years
- Aluminum Cans and Caps : 500 years
- Glass Bottles : 1,000 years
- Plastic Bags : 10 - 20 years
- Plastic Coated Paper : 5 years
- Plastic Film Containers 20 - 30 years
- Nylon Fabric : 30 - 40 years
- Leather : up to 50 years
- Wool Socks : 1 - 5 years
- Orange and Banana Peels : up to 2 years
- Tin Cans : 50 years
- Plastic Six-Pac Holders : 100 years
- Plstic Bottles and Styrofoam : Indefinitely
What You Can Do To Help
You can help by recycling the following items :
- Copy and construction paper, envelopes, cards and gift wrap
- Newspapers, books, megazines, catalogues and telephone books
- Paper egg cartons, rolls and bags
- Tissue and cereal boxes (Remove liners and plastic windows)
- Corrugated cardboard and pizza boxes (ensure that they are clean, unwaxed and flattened)
- Drink boxes and milk cartons (no straws)
- Metal cans and rigid aluminum containers
- Glass bottles and jars
- Plastic bottlers, jugs, tubs and lids
- Frozen juice containers
